Frequently asked questions

What type of drawings can I use?

Floor plan and elevation drawings as PDF (raster or vector), PNG, TIFF, JPEG or JPG. These can be scans or photographs of paper drawings, screenshots, or digital exports from CAD — see Uploading & scaling drawings.

How does the AI know the height settings?

It uses default values that you can edit from the input drawing's Edit mode, per storey. If you also upload elevation drawings, window and door heights are taken from those instead — see height settings.

How long does generation take?

Anywhere from about 5 minutes to several hours, depending on the complexity of the building; a small example building takes roughly 8 minutes. The progress bar doesn't start moving immediately and may look stuck at times — that's normal. You can close the tab and follow progress later from History.

What if something comes out wrong?

Every generated model can be reviewed and corrected in the 2D editor before you download it — see Reviewing & editing in 2D. If an element was detected incorrectly, it's quick to fix by hand.

How accurate are the results?

Results are accurate enough to save significant time on tasks that don't require millimeter precision, even on real-world drawings of varying quality. Always review the generated model before relying on it for detailed work.

Which parts of a building can be modeled?

Walls, windows, doors, floor slabs and spaces, output as IfcWall, IfcWindow, IfcDoor, IfcSlab and IfcSpace. Matching elements share a common type across the model — for example, all exterior walls of the same construction share one wall type.

Are the exported models compatible with Revit, Archicad and similar software?

Yes, with any software that supports importing the industry-standard IFC format. Importing into Revit or Archicad through their built-in IFC importer converts the model into fully editable native objects.

Which formats can I export to?

IFC 2X3, IFC 4X3, Excel, CSV and JSON. The Excel, CSV and JSON formats are lists of the model's objects and their data, intended for quantification tasks. Let us know if you need a specific format for the software you use.

Where is my data stored and processed?

In datacenters located in the European Union, in line with standard data protection practices.

How am I charged?

Generating and previewing a model is free. You're charged only when you download it, based on the number of billable BIM objects (walls, windows, doors and similar elements) it contains — see Pricing & billing.

Is there an API?

Yes. You can upload drawings, poll the generation status and download finished models programmatically — see the API documentation.

Which drawings perform well?

As a rule of thumb, the clearer the drawing, the better it will perform. These guidelines give the best results:

  • Clear drawings originating from CAD software, as a vector PDF or a raster format.
  • Only one drawing per input file.
  • A suitable resolution for raster formats — approximately 50 pixels per meter gives good results.
  • Walls that are clearly visible and drawn with straight lines. The current AI models straight, 90° walls better than diagonal ones, and cannot model curved walls yet — support for those is planned.
  • Typical window and door representations, which work well in most cases.

Things that may distract the AI

  • Large amounts of annotation, such as measurement lines or the diagonal lines used for suspended ceilings.
  • Unusual doors and windows — sliding doors, or windows that look like doors.
  • Unusual furniture, fixtures, machinery or icons.

Scanning issues that lower model quality

  • Non-straight scans.
  • Paper creases or bends in scans.
  • Overexposed scans.

How can I use DWG drawings?

DWG files from AutoCAD can't be uploaded directly, but they can be converted to vector PDF, which works well. You can do this with AutoCAD or with the free Autodesk DWG TrueView software: open your DWG, select Plot, and save it to a PDF.
