Uploading & scaling drawings
Supported file types, what makes a good input drawing, and how to set an accurate scale.
Supported file formats
You can upload:
- PDF — exported directly from CAD software, or a scan of a paper drawing.
- PNG, JPG and WebP — scanned or photographed drawings.
- ZIP — an archive containing several PDFs or images, uploaded in one go.
Each file can be up to 20 MB.
You can upload a floor plan for each storey of the building, plus elevation drawings for any side of the building you have (see Floors & elevations). Elevations let individual floors, doors and windows take on their real heights instead of default values.
Setting the scale
Every drawing needs a scale so that real-world distances (wall lengths, room areas, storey heights) can be calculated correctly. There are a few ways to set it, available from the Scale panel for each drawing:
Automatic
Detected automatically from the drawing where possible (for example, from a scale bar or text found in the PDF). Always double check the result against a known dimension before continuing.
Reference line
Draw a line over any element of known length in the drawing (for example a wall or a door opening) and enter its real-world length. The scale is calculated from the pixel length of the line you drew.
Reference area
Draw a rectangle over a room or area of known size and enter its real-world area. Useful when you know a floor area from a schedule but don't have a clean single dimension to measure against.
Known ratio
If the drawing states its scale directly (for example 1:100), enter that ratio and the unit directly — no measuring required. Only available for PDF uploads.
Default heights
Where a drawing (or its matching elevation) doesn't specify a height, these defaults are used and can be overridden per floor plan:
- Storey height: 3.0 m
- Door height: 2.1 m
- Window height: 1.6 m, starting 0.8 m above the floor
